House Rules by Jodi Picoult. Mixes Asperger's syndrome, family life, law and murder into an easy listen that I am enjoying. It's the first of her books that I've read and while it's a bit repetitive on the Asperger descriptions I think I'll look at her other titles, the people in it are well done, you do get interested in them.

The Eyre Affair would have to be my favourite although The Well of Lost Plots comes a close second, it is very hard to pick. I was a little disappointed with Shades of Grey, probably because it was so different to his other books and wasnt what I was expecting, it didnt have the same charm. It was good that Fforde tried something different and I am hoping when I reread it (which will be soon) I'll appreciate it a bit more.

finished the hunger games and thought it was excellent, really enjoyed this one and wouldn't hesitate to recomend it.
after reading the link with the booker prize list i thought i would give one of the past winners a go and picked vernon god little by dbc pierre.i wish i hadn't bothered,i really disliked this from the off.i'm only about 45 minutes into it but i'm considering packing it in and starting something else.has anyone else read this book and if so what are your thoughts on it?is it just a slow starter?
as far as jasper fforde goes i much prefer the two nursery chrimes books -the big over easy and the fourth bear.both very funny and quirky and enjoyed them more than the thursday next books

I have mixed feelings about Picoult. I didn't like how she ended the Sisters Keeper one. It was like the whole book was about a decision and the end was a cop out.

Funny how a bunch of us like Fforde, but for different series. I think the Thursday Next is the best and it took me awhile to get into Shades of Grey, but now I am looking forward to the next one. I never got into the nursery crimes ones.

Though I sortof intended to follow on reading Jodi Picoult no others took my interest after finishing House Rules so after a bit of a browse I am now listening to Christine Falls by Benjamin Black (a pen name of John Banville who was last year's Booker prize winner), narrated by Timothy Dalton, a dark smooth voice that seems to suit the story very well. http://www.benjaminblackbooks.com/christinefalls.htm
It's the first of a series and I hope to enjoy them all

I've never read Fforde, will add him to my check it out list

Sun 8th: Have finished Christine Falls and did enjoy it, good atmosphere and characters. I will enjoy reading the rest of the series when I get them. Now have started listening to Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood.

Am considering adding the Body Farm series by Jefferson Bass to my TBR list, has anyone read these?

Tue 10th: Heartbreaker was an easy read and I might gather the rest of the series to read over time, but wasn't quite the suspense I hoped for. Still sitting on the Body Farm fence (mixed reviews) so I am listening to We Need To Talk About Kevin, Lionel Shriver. I am enjoying this very much, the narration (Barbara Rosenblatt), the pace and the content all suit the current mood.

I nearly listened to this through the night... did fall asleep but woke and made cocoa and continued listening... dozed, rewound and again continued... no doubt about it, Barbara Rosenblatt did a great job narrating this. Anyone else like this one?

i haven't heard of the book or the author but i've just read the synopsis and it sounds really good,i seem to say that a lot on this thread .
i've totally given up on vernon god little,i disliked it almost instantly and i'm not sure i'll give it a second chance but i hate wasting money so never say never.which leads me neatly onto my next book which is 'silverfin' by charlie higson and is the first in the young james bond series,i think it's classed as a young adult book but i'm quite enjoying it

My later days of reading before taking up audiobooks was True Crime, authors like Jack Olsen and Ann Rule... fiction was too 'rote'. Tho a novel, I really enjoyed listening to We Need To Talk About Kevin, not the usual formula and maybe not to everyones taste My only problem now is how to follow it.... Jamsie Bond (young or old) doesn't do it for me!

Just looked up vernon god little reviews.... perhaps I should try it now, after 'Kevin', seems linked. hmmm

hey aprilla,if you give vernon god little a go be prepared for the most swear words in a single book every sentence seems to have the f word in there but this isn't the reason i disliked it so much.i definately wouldn't lend this book to my dear old mum, she'd be straight round to the author's house to wash his mouth out with soap
