I wish I had the talent to write but I don't, so I will need to stick with reading
I have read a little of your material and you seem to know your stuff, keep up the good work Dorothy!

I was hoping that this place might be somewhere for writers as well as readers - So I will check out some of your work this evening (when I get home!).

I guess the forum doesnt make it clear whether its about listening to audiobooks or writing books in general (or in my case, taking written books and turning them into audio books in my home studio) - I guess the subtopics cover all the bases...

I read your AudioForBooks blog - Are you able to be a full time writer, or do you still need to have a day job? To what extent does "new media" support an author vs. old media?

I am a full time writer. I think that new media is crucial for a writer these days. My business is primarily internet based and I use social media to connect with others in the industry. Right now, I write for others. Someday, I'd love to write for myself...
Thanks for reading my blog!

I dont write stories - but I am a songwriter if that counts as writing :-)
The thing that drew me to this forum is that I am a podcaster/narrator- It started with a couple of guest appearances on shows, but I have now done a couple of stories and want to do more -
so
1 ) I am interested in how I can network using those skills to learn about the "craft"- I am a novice, with a decent voice and better-than-average audio equipment (but no experience!)
2 ) I want to try some fun work for others here if the community builds up (gratis of course - I dont do this for profit!)- I just think it would be neat to have some more stuff "out there" that I can feel proud of
3 ) I want to see what techniques are out there for promoting ones own work - In my case on behalf of my wife- She has a book which I currently am serializing into an audio book (19 chapters recorded so far out of 26)
I bet there is a lot for me here -
Of course the other thing is I might find something to listen to myself!! :-) - I listen to www.escapepod.org quite often, and a couple of other authors on places like www.podiobooks.com - but its more of a "supporting the community" thing rather than a passion so far - I have yet to say an audio book has been as enjoyable for me as reading the pages, as I tend to get distracted and have to keep rewinding the book. Hopefully the posts on this forum will steer me in the right direction!

I love music and have played guitar since I was about 12, I do not call my self a guitarist though
I just play for my self; one of my regrets was that I never tried to become involved with a band. I have never seen my self as a person that has a talent for any one thing.
I sure envy those that have talent and pursued it.
