I wrote today about my mixed feelings for Jodi Picoult. She is an awesome writer who brings controversial subjects into a more personal light. By taking a reader into a situation, we can better understand how it affected the people involved. But...
Picoult cops out. Seriously. In My Sister's Keeper she set up the whole story of the girl suing for her independence from being a freaking spare parts factory for her sister. She wins. Awesome, right? Now she has to face up to what she has won and live with the consequences to her sister and... Nope. Picoult conveniently kills her after the verdict so she donates whatever vital organ was necessary anyway. That made me so angry! It felt like a complete wimp move. Like the author was afraid she'd get hate mail from those upset by her allowing the protagonist to actually go ahead and live with a controversial choice.
What do you think?
