Audible Plus vs. Premium Plus

Audible is a popular audiobook subscription service that offers unlimited access to a library of more than 200,000 titles. The service has been around for over 20 years and has helped millions of people find new books to read.

Audible is one of the most popular ways to listen to audiobooks with millions of subscribers worldwide. But with two different subscriptions to choose from, it’s hard to know which one is right for you.

In this article, we’ll compare Audible’s two main subscription tiers: Audible Plus and Audible Premium Plus. We’ll also take a look at some alternatives that may be worth considering before making your final decision.

What is Audible?

Audible is the world’s leading provider of digital spoken audio information and entertainment. Users can purchase and download Audible content to an unlimited number of compatible devices, including Kindle eReaders and Fire tablets, Android phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, Samsung TVs, Roku players, Echo devices, etc.

Audible also launched a standalone app for smart speakers powered by Google Assistant, including Google Home and Home Mini. The new Audible app should allow you to listen to audiobooks even if you don’t have an Audible subscription (though you’ll still need one to buy audiobooks). If you do have an Audible subscription, however, Google Assistant will make it easier for you to access your library from anywhere in the home without having to open another app.

Audible is an online audio book store. It currently has over 250,000 titles in its catalog, including bestsellers, classics, and self-help books.

In April 1995, Audible was launched with the goal of making audio books widely available to consumers. Audible was founded in 1995 by Donald Katz. As an audiobook company, Audible’s mission was to provide independent authors and publishers with audiobooks. Their library now includes over 200,000 titles from some of the world’s leading audiobook publishers, including Simon & Schuster Audio, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan Audio, and Penguin Random House Audio Publishing Group.

In recent years, Audible has evolved its service offerings to include audiobooks for kids and teens ages 4 to 12, as well as original content like comedy specials and short stories by celebrities like Amy Poehler, Neil Patrick Harris, and Nick Offerman.

Audible Listens to Your Reading Habits

As soon as you create an account with Audible, you’ll be asked to describe your tastes in books so the company can recommend titles that will appeal to you. During your listening experience, you can also rate books to help tailor the recommendation service to your tastes. By using this system, you’ll avoid listening to something you don’t enjoy or that doesn’t fit your interests.

You Can Download Books Anywhere You Go

You do not need an internet connection to listen to audio books through Audible, but if you want access to all of their titles and features, then you do need an internet connection. This allows you to download any book onto your smartphone or tablet so that you can listen while traveling or without Wi-Fi access.

Audible Membership Plan

Audible is a membership program that gives you access to audiobooks and original audio programs. You pay a monthly or annual fee and can then download as many titles as you like, with no limit on the number of titles you can download.

With Audible Membership Plan, you can buy audiobooks and listen to them wherever you want – on your phone or tablet, at home with your favorite headphones, or on the go with Audible Channels. In addition, audiobooks are available in any format: ad-free, uninterrupted listening on all devices, including Kindle e-readers, tablets and apps.

Audible’s two subscription plans are called “Audible plus ” and “Audible premier plus.” Both subscriptions allow access to more than 180,000 books, but the Premier Plus plan includes more features and services.

Audible Plus

Audible Plus is a membership program that allows members to get more from the Audible app. The audiobook listening experience can be sped up 2x, you can listen for an unlimited amount of time, and more.

A subscription plan to Audible Plus is available for $7.95 per month. You can listen to original audiobooks, meditation programs, podcasts, and sleep tracks with Audible Plus.

Audible Premier Plus

Audible announced a major upgrade to its subscription service in December of 2018. A new plan called Audible Premium Plus includes all the features of the old Audible Unlimited plan with some additional benefits.

Audible Premium Plus includes everything in Audible Plus, plus one title per month from an expanded selection of new release best sellers, providing even more listening time per month. It costs $14.95 per month.

Audible Premium Plus – 2 Credits $22.95/month includes the Plus Catalog and 2 credits per month for all premium selection titles.

Audible Premium Plus Annual – 12 Credits $149.50/year includes access to the Plus Catalog + 12 credits per year for any premium selection titles.

Audible Premium Plus Annual – 24 Credits $229.50/year includes the Plus Catalog and 24 credits for any premium selection title.

Audible Membership Plan – What Will You Get

One credit per month — You’ll receive one credit per month that can be used to download an audio title from our catalog, whether it’s a book, an original audio series, or a podcast. Credits can be used however you like, whether for one book or multiple books (or other content). The credit you have will expire at the end of each billing cycle unless used before then.

A wide selection of titles — Among its 350,000 titles are author favorites like James Patterson, Gillian Flynn, and Lewis Black, as well as classics and top performers like Simon Schama and Lewis Black.

Unlimited listening — Whether you’re listening to one or several audiobooks, you can listen to them anytime you want.

Audible Channels —  There are curated playlists of audiobooks recommended by Audible editors in Audible Channels. There is a “From the Top” series that features celebrity authors reading from their books. There are also genre-specific channels, such as sci-fi and mystery.

Audible Originals —  All of these titles were written and narrated by professionals from Audible Studios. There are several titles coming out in September, including The Last Voyage of Poe Blythe (September 4), The Devil in the Details (October 2) and My Favorite Thing Is Monsters (November 6).

In the case of Amazon Prime members, Audible’s free monthly books are included as part of their perks. A free 30-day trial of Audible is available for new subscribers if they are not members of Amazon Prime (including one free book).

Audible Plus vs Premium Plus: What’s the Difference?

There are two versions of Audible Plus, the cheaper one offering fewer benefits and the more expensive one offering more benefits. Both services offer unlimited access to audiobooks and other audio content, but Audible Plus doesn’t include additional features, such as:

Unlimited Listening – If you subscribe to Audible Plus, you can listen to up to three titles a month without any further restrictions. There is no limit to how many books you can listen to each month with Premium Plus – as long as they are available in your library.

Downloads – Both plans offer the option to download audiobooks from your library; however, only Premium Plus subscribers have access to all file types and sizes.

Monthly Credits: The main difference between Audible Plus and Premium Plus is that Premium Plus gives you a monthly credit that you can use on audiobooks or newsstand purchases. The credit is worth $14.95, so if you don’t use it all in one month, it rolls over into the next month – but only if you are subscribed to both plans. You will lose your credits after 365 days if you are just subscribed to one or the other.

Conclusion

If you are looking to upgrade your Audible membership, the Audible Plus and Premium Plus memberships are two of your best options. Both plans offer a host of benefits that can help improve your listening experience.

In addition to having more features, Audible Plus and  Premium Plus also come with a 30-day free trial that lets you try out all the benefits before paying anything at all. This makes it easy for anyone to find out whether or not they like these features before committing to them long-term.
